CONTENT

Founded in 1832, Nagatanien is an Iga ware pottery manufacturer. About 3 to 6 million years ago, the Iga region was at the bottom of Lake Biwa, and the company uses the heat-resistant clay of ancient Lake Biwa to produce a variety of pottery. The long, old climbing kiln on the premises is a registered tangible cultural property of the country. In addition to traditional pottery, the company also works on a daily basis to create new pottery, based on the philosophy that “the maker should be the true user.” These efforts have borne fruit, and the clay pot that was developed after three years of development has become very popular in recent years. This clay pot has high heat storage and heat retention, making it possible to cook rice fluffy, sweet and delicious. It can also be used for a variety of other dishes in addition to cooking rice. This time, in addition to touring the Hasegawa gardens, those who have signed up for the tour can enjoy a supreme experience in the Hasegawa gardens’ main house, which is normally closed to the public, where you can eat rice balls made with Iga rice cooked in an Iga clay pot while admiring the beautiful Japanese garden.
